Get your golf gear out!

The summer devoted have been doing it, the winter (and autumn) troupe have at times visited to test the feel of the green… and for those who have just got the hitting bug it’s time to dust of the bag and clean out the spiders, and in some cases mice that manage to infest the unused bags and buggies in the summer months. The course is looking fine, after a season of extreme heat, and it’s time to get out there with the increased traffic to hit the little white ball out of enthusiasm, anger or simply the desire to get some exercise at the Keith golf course.

The golf club launches it’s season on Sunday March 16th with the Mig Brookman Ambrose. The Ambrose is always a popular event, giving players in teams the chance to have a day predominantly on the fairways, so get your players together, experience is not a prerequisite and lack of experience can be more fun and laughs! Prizes are available for all categories of handicap and non handicap players on the day. Tees open at 11 am for an 11.30 tee off. The Ambrose is also a great opportunity for potential new players to see the course and get a feel for the game. Enquiries about the season can be made to Men’s Captain Tony Richman on 0418893165.

Regular Saturday competitions will tee off between 11.30am and 12 noon with all players invited, including the fairer sex to civilize the men! Highlight events for the season to put on the calendar include the Keith Masters Green Jacket event on April 12th, the McMillan Trophy Mixed pairs event, an Irish 4 Ball Stableford on April 26th, the Canadian Foursomes (for the Patrons Pewters) on May 31st and the 18 hole Keith Open on June 22nd, which combines as part of a ‘Long Weekend of golf’ in conjunction with the Ladies Open on the Friday and a Stableford round on the Saturday, the weekend being sponsored by Goldsmith Plumbing, Riddoch Insurance Services, Keith Mitre 10 and Seed Genetics International. The season continues with a Two Ball Ambrose on July 5th, and the Club Championships for A, B and C grades which will culminate in Finals on August 9th Saturday play as usual includes a rotation of Par, Stroke and Stableford play, with the Club Championships for A, B and C grades along with the Hill and Witallocka trophies.

The season starts for the Ladies on Wednesday April 2nd, with an Opening Day Ambrose, with Tees between 9.30 and 10am each week. All players and new members are welcome, including the blokes! Mel Johnson (0428187566) is the captain for the winter, with her able bodied match committee primed to handle all the excitement and controversy of the coming season. Highlight events include the Shylie Rymill Club Foursomes on April 22nd, the Keith Ladies Open on June 20th, the Stableford Multiplication days, the Secret Nine stroke rounds and the Bisque bogey v Par round. The general format of Wednesday play rotates between Par, Stroke and Stableford rounds, along with the Ruth Wheal Memorial and Club Championships for A, B and C grade events.

So lots of opportunities for play, depending on whether you are a Wednesday or Saturday enthusiast. The club has a range of Membership options including Full Memberships, Over 65s, Restricted, Juniors, New Members and Social membership deals. So get out your sticks (or buy some new ones!) and come out to the club.
