The Jones Boy Plays it Above Par

In good conditions players came out to play some serious golf as the winter season starts to set in, but it was the Jones boy who was a stand out on Saturday at Keith Golf course.

Playing in the South East Blinds and Awnings Par round, Graham Jones was the only player to shoot above par, with his consistent game to shoot a +5 and win the day by a clear margin. With the rest of the field struggling in the wind Bob Dicker finished up in second spot on -1, winning on a count back from Bradley Sherriff. From here scores were tighter down the order. In the C Grade Bob Standley stroked around for a -2, which included a successful birdie putt on the fourth. A more spectacular result from the day’s play was Bradley Sherriff’s effort on the Par 4 third hole. Teeing off, Sherriff cleared the green to finish behind, only to chip the ball up the slope and into the hole to take out the Eagle’s Nest. The remaining sharp shooter for the day, was Daren O’Neill’s effort on the ninth hole where he hit the green with his tee shot to about 4 metres from hole, sinking an across the slope putt to take out the double prize.

Over the next few weeks golf starts to pick up momentum in Keith. Next Saturday in conjunction with the US Masters in Augusta Georgia, the club stages the prestigious Keith Masters Green Jacket stroke round, sponsored by Wickham Flower and Co. This is followed the next Saturday with the Captain’s Cup Stableford, sponsored by Men’s Captain Mark Wachtel. It is a busy month for Men’s Handicap Pennants as well, with Keith coming up against Lucindale at Keith next Sunday, followed by a match against Padthaway at Lucindale on April 17th.sunny golf
