Leek Leaves Barry with the Crumbs..

crumbsSimon Leek produced a powerful round of Nett 67 to take out the Frank Mugg Stroke round at Keith Golf Club on Saturday. With a return to his normal power hitting form Leek produced a faultless round in the good early season conditions to shoot six under on his handicap.

Players generally came out with some good scores, but only one other came close to Leek, Barry Cakebread also firing a Nett 67, but losing out on a count back to be left with second prize on the day and the prospect of a handicap change. Leek’s round included a birdie on the 11th, where he sunk a putt from a good distance, Tony Richman having beaten his tee shot for the Nearest the Pin prize. Successful scores on the day included Richman, who came away with a Nett 71, the same as Daniel Rayson, who produced the best B Grade scorecard, beating out Mark Wachtel on Nett 73. Cakebread took out the C Grade honours with his handicap shattering score, while Bob Standley also put in a solid effort for a Nett 73. Other scores of note in the B and C Grades were Bob Dicker with his Nett 76 and Andrew Morris with a Nett 77.

The sharpshooters managed to maintain form on some of the Par 3’s with some birdies resulting from good tee shots. Wachtel shot the closest on the 4th and was rewarded with a successful birdie putt, with Dicker repeating the same feat from further out. Miles Hannemann, making a return to the game took out the NTP on the ninth hole and finished with a solid Nett 78.

It is a potentially busy Easter coming up for golf enthusiasts, with the W Dunn Painting and Decorating Stableford on Saturday, followed by the South East Blinds and Awnings Par round on April 2nd. More opportunities for golf include the Millicent Ambrose on Good Friday and the Blue Lake Easter Open on April 26th – 27th.
