Moreton Takes out the Rewa Densley Matchplay

Michelle Moreton completed a season of improvement when she took out the Rewa Densley Matchplay title, defeating Tania Kennett in the matchplay final.

Playing on a course that is greening with the onset of warmer temperatures, players found the course still challenging as the rough invoked heavier penalties for errant shots. Moreton was not deterred however as she played a solid final, reflecting recent good form, including a smilingNearest the Pin on the fourth, where she also sunk the birdie putt.

The Ladies were also playing in the Out and About Clothing Stabelford event, scores still reflecting the challenging nature of the course. Winning the day on a count back with a score of 33 points was Lynn Todd, producing a better finish than Anthea Brinkworth at the end of the round. In Division Two Jo White produced the best score with 27 points, winning out over Annette Snajdar by just the one stroke. White also produced one of the day’s better shots when she managed to chip the ball in from off the green on the fifteenth hole. Barb Little also had her highlight for the round when she produced the best tee shot to be Nearest the Pin on the fourteenth hole, while Ann Milkins produced the longest drive on the fifth fairway. Players were unsuccessful in hitting the ninth and eleventh greens, but Lesleigh Edwards added one more moment for the day when she chipped in on the long par 5 sixth hole. All in all it was a good day out for players, in much welcomed warmer conditions.

The Men meanwhile played in the Good Country Physiotherapy Stableford whilst a brave bunch of six went to Lameroo for the open event there. On a warm day on a firm course up north, players found the art of chipping onto the green difficult and while not many prizes were won by Keith players some big drives were hit on the firm fairways, including a massive A Grade Long Drive by Tyler Bleasby, which would have been all of 320 metres.

The chance to earn crucial round points is still up for players in the lead up to the end of the winter season. On September 7th players turn out for the club sponsored Stableford event, followed by Aggregate Par round sponsored by Club Patroness Lorna Henstridge, where players get to choose their own partners. This will be followed by the Keith Pharmacy Stroke round on September 21st. The Men turn out this week for a Stroke round, followed by a Par Round on September 10th.
